"Pease
could anyone help me to trace people who worked at the Ammunition
Factory at Speke liverpool around 1942-43. I believe the factory
was Roots Car Factory and turned into ammunitions production
."

Hi
Janet, 听听听听听听听听听听听听
I worked at Speke Airport in 1943/4/5,听 Roots Factory in those
days built the HALIFAX bomber for the R.A.F.
I worked as an Airfield Controller and as such it was my job
to control aircraft on the ground as well as in the air. 听听听听听听听听听听听
Roots had an adjoining taxiway, when they had finished bombers
ready to fly to their new squadrons, they would taxi out,听 when
airspace was clear, I would give them the OK to take off. 听听听听听听听听听听
During that time period, I was not aware of any ammunition factory
at ROOTS,听 it would be highly unlikely that such a factory would
be in close proximity to an aircraft factory,听 the Luftwaffe
would have loved that.
I cannot attest to previous years, but again it is doubtful,
being that ROOTs was located so close to an R.A.F. airdrome,听
in addition, it is my recollection that all automobile factories
were requisitioned for aircraft production and other service
transportation, i.e.; lorries, personnel carriers, tanks and
etc

"Hi
there.
I am looking for information on a pub in Liverpool that is nicknamed
The Dead Hole.
Could you tell me some history on this pub, what is it's real
name and how did it get the nickname.
I think it is near the old Sefton General Hospital. Thanks.
"听 |
Do
you mean the dead house, that was off Earl Road, which is
not far from Smithdown Road. Sefton General is on Smithdown
Road.
Good Luck,
Irene.
We
think you might mean the Earle public house in Earle St off
Smithdown Road. The nickname is in fact The Dead House this
was due to it's proximity to the cemetary and the belief that
pallbearers and their "charges" used to take refreshment
at this venue.

"I
hope you may be able to help me to answer a question that has
puzzled me for a number of years.
I was told many years ago that the Brickwall inn at Tarbock
was originally a slave compound used for housing slaves until
they were either sold or transported but I cannot find any evidence
to support the story even though it does make sense that a brickwall
compound would serve this purpose.
I feel that many local residents would be very interested if
it true.
Thank you Mr Ellis" |

I
am now 75 years of age, and in all that time, I have never heard
or read any hint that the Queen Victoria Monument was the most
hated monument in Liverpool. 听听听听听听听
I am particularly impressed with all the monuments and statues
that are in abundance in the city of Liverpool, as I am of the
fine architecture of our older buildings,听 all should be valued
and protected with a pride in the heritage and rich history
of a great city, and long may they stand in prominence.
