Anatomical miracle

Once in my high school German class I wrote a short essay where I tried to explain that when I was young I broke my toe: Ich habe meinen Zeh erbrochen. My teacher (originally from Germany) must have been rather amused to see that I had 'vomited' my toe instead of breaking it. I should have written: Ich habe mir den Zeh gebrochen.

Despite taking years of German, I am still prone to many mistakes. When writing essays, speaking, etc. I had always used the word "erregt" for excited. So when I arrived in Germany to study abroad for a year, I said I was excited to be there. My German student mentor looked at me, laughed, and corrected me to say "aufgeregt". Apparently I'd been going around telling everyone I was very "sexually excited" to be there.
