A puppy called Loo.

Although our children speak practically fluent French, after living here for six years, some words have obviously not cropped up. My 11 year old daughter recently acquired a female puppy. As the feminine form of chien is chienne, 'dog', and a puppy is chiot, she proudly announced to our neighbours that she was so excited finally to have a chiotte of her own. They, of course, were highly amused because chiottes is a rather vulgar word for 'loo'.

Guess what! I asked our neighbour if he wanted a puppy, and when he said he had a chien, I urged him to take a chiotte for his chien! And I was 41!
