How to greet a Turk (English/Turkish)
If you have the luck of meeting a Turk, try to greet them with the Turkish word for hello, merhaba. If you can't remember it, simply say hello. Try hard to resist the temptation to say hiya, as we like to do here in South Wales. It sounds to them like the Turkish word haya which means testicle and probably wouldn't create the first impression that you would wish to give!

As an English teacher in Turkey, I am having hard times to teach the word "sick" to Turkish students. Because it sounds like a very rude Turkish word used for a male private part.
