My American boss was explaining why he arrived (late) at 9:59 for a 10:00 meeting with Brits. He explained he had just dirtied his pants, at which they were horrified, and told him that he did not have to continue with giving the presentation. And they could take him to the hospital if needed. He replied, no problem. It happens all the time. "I just brush it off and go on. It happens all the time." I think they were a bit horrified.
I had a friend who went to France and barely spoke any French at all. When he got lost, he kept on trying to ask people where the war (guerre) was instead of the train station (gare).
That's brilliant lol. I went in for my Spanish oral exam in school and my teacher asked me how I was, and at that point I launched into my presentation. Needless to say, I'm not very good at Spanish....
I remember on my first holiday in France some ten years ago and being armed only with my bad schoolboy French, acquired many years before. While in a bar, asking for directions to the toilet. 'Nous sommes les toilettes Madame?' I asked the lady behind the bar who was admiring my baby daughter. Which of course means "We are the toilets Madame?" Luckily she had a great sense of humour and told me where the bathroom was.
