Throwing yourself in at the deep end
I moved to Venice, Italy, 2 years ago and would really recommend getting a job as the only real way to learn a foreign language. It's not easy and you need a lot of courage, however 'throwing yourself in at the deep end' really enables you to get into the mentality of the culture you find yourself in. Once you find you are able to think in the foreign language, it all starts to come very much more quickly and easily.
