Football's not just Forest Boys!Just three seasons on from setting up a Pendle Forest Girls team and they are League Champs. Pendle Forest Girls U15s Football coach Danny Hooper and Pendle Forest FC Chairman Jon Wilkinson听decided three years ago that footy wasn't just for boys...and that girls should have fun, too. Hooper booked three days off work and set about building the Pendle Forest Girls U15s. He visited local schools in the hope of drumming up business but was worried that no one would turn up. On the first day of training he was relieved to be met by 14 excited, but nervous girls. It wasn't easy, though, some of the girls had never played football before. However, Hooper and Steve Driver put them through their paces and despite a tough first season their second spell in the League they netted several awards. They finished third in the League, picked up the top scorer award and Hooper received the Manager of the Year Award. The Girls also pocketed a Fair Play Award in a tournament in Wales. This season was third time lucky for the Girls won the League in style...clinching the title with a 9-0 win over Haslingden Juniors. Danny Hooper Striker Lehanna secured her second hat-trick of the season and Rosie made a hat-trick, too, to help seal the title for Pendle Forest. Manager/coach Hooper was ecstatic with the Girls success just three years after kicking off the team. He said: "I'm so proud of my girls for sticking together and proving we could win the title!听 "I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us - including Bains Florist and Nationwide Marquee Hire." The girls certainly have team morale. Squad captain Becky said: "The best thing is that everyone in the team gets on and we love playing as a team." The sentiment was echoed by Lehanna who said: "I enjoy playing for Pendle Forest because it's the best girls team I have played for and everyone's committed to do well for themselves and the manager." Goalkeeper Katie adds: "The team has progressed so much over the three years and the club is a great one to play for!" last updated: 11/04/2008 at 15:47 Have Your SaySend in your messages for Pendle Forest Girls...
