Find out more about Preston's Playing Violet - an electronica/ambient/rock band with a touch of trip hop....

Antonia Robles - vocals
Chris Adams - Guitars Andy
Bristow - keyboards, drums & programming

Got any bad habits?

yes - many....

What's the band's history so far?

Playing Violet are a delectable fusion of electronica/ambient/rock with a touch of trip hop.

The band was formed by the founder member Andy in January 07. Producing most of the music himself electronically he took on board the guitar services of Chris a former band mate. After much searching and auditioning Andy finally met Antonia whose sultry soulful voice fitted the music perfectly.

Singing has been in Antonias family for many years and Antonia realized she could sing when she was pulled up on karaoke at the age of 15 on a family holiday. She then later performed in bars in the northwest of England doing Soul, Motown, R-n-B.

Antonia met Andy through family friends and arranged an audition to which she nearly didn't go as she had never heard electronica music before and didn't know what to expect. Luckily she did and liked the way her voice sounded with the music so much she agreed to sing with the band.

Chris first started playing guitar at the age of 11, he remained a closet guitarist until he performed live for the first time when he was 23, having experienced the rush of live gigging he was hooked and met Andy when playing at a local music pub in Preston.

Since then he has gone on to play in a number of local bands including local band feedback. Chris and Andy played together many times before Andy asked him to join his band.

Andy also came from a musical family and first started playing keyboards at primary school and then discovered drums at the age of 12.

He performed live for the first time when he was 14 in his band every Sunday at "The Lamb" in Preston. Gaining a large experience in many bands playing either drums or synths - he later became a well recognized live sound engineer working with the likes of Kelly Llorenna and Girls Aloud. He decided to start his own band after the last band he worked with disbanded.

Playing Violet are now continuing to write and record their album, with interest from record labels and are currently negotiating a contract with a london based label.

Saw them last night @ Hush and as usual, they were the business.Petty jealousy springs to mind with both "Jimbo" and "Stuart" and their comments. Still waiting for that elusive record deal boys?Keep the faith Antonia. You know that you have a voice to match the music. Remember what i told you last night before the gig. You're up there and they are down there. Ignore them. See you guys soon.

I love antonia, Not for the music, I just love her. I saw them playing last saturday, after my 5 hour walk to see them half a mile from my house. I loved the way Antonia owned the stage and wished she owned me. She has a great stage presence. The 5 hour walk and resulting coronary were totally worth it!!

Jimbo.
I went and watched Playing Violet on 6th October. Needless to say I left feeling cheated. I was constantly hearing about how good they are, and when I finally saw them in action I was bitterly dissapointed. The lead singer sounded like Jack Duckworth with a sore throat, and as for the band?, I've belted out more tuneful music in the shower. I would strongly recommend avoiding hearing them play. If you have to, get a friend to scream in your ears before you listen to them. It helps.

Stuart
Mind numbing drivel, shame there seems to be a real lack of innovation in modern 'music'. Influences include a vast list of predominately MOR tripe which seems to have influenced nothing except virtual anasthaesia. Do yourself a favour and dig out some decent music

Cheese!!!
