What exactly is speed-dating?
Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process or dating system, where the purpose is to enjoy romantic or friendship dates rather than decide anything. How does speed dating work? More people understand Speed Dating these days. Upon arrival at Preston’s Speed Dating event, participants checked in and were given a personalised badge with a number on it. Once everyone arrived, the host gave a quick welcome speech to let everyone know what to expect. Once the dating part of the evening started, those with badge number one started at table number one, those with badge number two at table number two and so on. After four minutes, a horn was sounded, the girls stayed seated and all the guys moved round one table. Between each date, a little time was allocated for members to make notes on their dates using their 'Speeding Ticket'. The event continued until everyone had met each other. Originally, I went along to do a piece for Blast and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Lancashire - who wereÌý broadcasting the fun live on the The Late Night show with Carole Turner. However,Ìý one participant dropped out and decided that the night just wasn’t for her.Ìý Oh no!Ìý Now they were one participant short… Aj to the rescue

Well, I’ve got a boyfriend but I just had to sit in, didn't I?Ìý The poor men wouldn't have had anyone to talk to for a whole four minutes if it wasn't for me!Ìý It was actually fun.Ìý It’s amazing how much you get to know someone in just four minutes… And lover boy didn't seem to mind! The people had been single for different lengths of time, some were funny, quirky and others eccentric to say the least.Ìý My stereotypical view of speed dating was a bunch of desperate people who can't get a date and this was literally their last chance to find love.Ìý Well how wrong was I?!Ìý Speed Dating is ideal for those who lead busy lives, don't have much time and want to meet new people in a fun, safe environment.
Also, the big bonus on using more conventional dating agencies - you aren't lumbered all night with someone you don't like.Ìý Some people didn't even want to find love; it was just a way to meet new people or something to do for a laugh.Ìý Obviously, most of the people there wanted to find a partner but the environment was relaxed so there was no pressure.Ìý The results... I'm sure the question you're all asking is - did anyone pull? Well, there was definitely a few couples that had mutual attraction. I know because I asked...well it'd be rude not to. You don't find out until after the event though - when the dating agency calls you to tell you who (if anyone) fancies you! There was one guy who liked seven of his dates. By the law of probabilities - surely he'll get fixed up!Ìý |
