Local bands: I.C.O.N.

The lads from Burnley reckon they have too many bad habits to mention!

More about I.C.O.N...

Where are you from?

Burnley

Who plays what?

Mark Sagar - Vocals
Scott Knowles – Guitar
James Henderson – Drums
Ross Adams – Bass

Got any bad habits?

Far too many to mention!

What's the band's history so far?

I.C.O.N are steadily establishing themselves as one of the most exciting metal bands to emerge from the UK underground in the last few years.

Formed in Burnley, East Lancashire, just before the new millennium, the band initially started writing and gigging throughout the UK with a drum machine before James Henderson climbed onboard in early 2005.

2006 saw the release of ‘Control EP’, raising the band’s profile further.
In 2007, I.C.O.N enjoyed sell out Manchester shows including a sterling highlight appearance at Manchester Academy, a support slot with international rockers Zico Chain and an appearance at ‘In the City’, as well as the release of the popular ‘Messiah Complex’ EP.

2008 included tour dates with Diamond Head, Blaze Bayley, Witchfynde, Voodoo Six, 2 tracks on a worldwide release of PC game ‘Motorm4x’, a memorable appearance on SKY TV, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio, all along with their hefty touring and potent live shows.

2009 sees new bassist Ross Adams joining the family and completing the line-up, the release of their long awaited debut album ’NEW BORN LIE’, as well as extensive touring in the UK and beyond...

Absolutely blind to the current trends, I.C.O.N are forging their own path and pushing and shoving their way through in the only way they know how; with attitude, anger and their brand of hard-nosed fist pounding metal anthems, getting the I.C.O.N message out there as far and as wide as possible, pushing ever harder.

On tour throughout 2009.

Style and influences?

A powerful, original band mixing all the best elements of metal and hard rock and spitting out their own unique sound. We have many differing influences including COC, Black Label Society, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, the list goes on!

Best moment so far?

It's all been pretty great so far, releasing 4 EP's, our debut album due in March 09, playing with so many great artists including Diamond Head and ex-Iron Maiden frontman Blaze Bayley. But touring, recording and making new fans all the time is the best feeling.

Worst/most embarrassing moment so far?

Forgetting lyrics, forgetting guitar parts, amps not working, backdrops collapsing, singer's elbows hitting tuning nuts on the guitar halfway through a song, which was pretty embarrassing!

What's your favourite song? Or which song do you wish you'd written?

Hard to pick or narrow down a real 'favourite' because there are so many great songs out there and we all have very wide tastes and influences…

Anything else we should all know about?

Visit the I.C.O.N MySpace, sign up for our newsletter, download tracks and much more. Look out for our debut album ‘NEW BORN LIE’ in March 2009 and we’ll see you on the road throughout 2009!
