Getting set for the School Report

Hayley, Robyn and Lauren from Rainham School for Girls report on how they are preparing for the big day.

This is Hayley, Robyn and Lauren, reporting for the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ School News Report!

For the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Practice Day we had to choose a topic and research it, just like a real newsroom. One group chose to write about technology, another investigated Woolworths closing down, and one group researched the building of the White Horse statue. Mr John WarnettÌý from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Kent came in and did a talk about how he makes his radio show, and gave us some good tips on how to make news!

Robyn’s group researched technology: ‘We decided to make a questionnaire to ask people in our school about what kind of technology they use, and how much. After doing this we went round the school and asked people our questions. We wanted to find our about how technology affects our lives.

We also researched about the dangers of technology, like Internet safety and mobile phones.ÌýWe found out lots of interesting facts and scary ones too, for instance, if you have your mobile phone on at night the radioactivity coming for your phone might mean you find it difficult to sleep!’. Lauren said ‘we also had lots of fun putting all our information into a news report then acting it all out!’.

Hayley is going to be the Editor on the News Day, and says: ‘We are very excited about interviewing people like Kelly Holmes and Tanni Grey-Thompson! We are looking forward to using the equipment and going on camera like the proper news. We are a bit nervous in case anything goes wrong, but I’m sure it will all be fine. It will be fun to learn the ropes to making the news. I expect that there will be a bit of a panic on the day, but the practice day was fun and I’m sure the real day will be just as good!’
