Where in Kent?An exhibition of John Gay's photos is being held in London including many photos from Kent, but can you help identify where they were taken? John Gay was one of the most respected photographers of the mid-20th century and the photographs that he took during this period provide a fascinating chronicle of British life at the time. Between 1936 and 1996 John Gay took pictures of England's people, buildings, animals and landscapes and to mark the centenary of his birth, this exhibition will feature images from English Heritage's extensive collection of his work. Photo by John Gay. Is it Aylesford? Now many of his photographs have been pulled together to form an exhibition being held at Kenwood House, Hampstead, London from the 29th January until the 29th March 2009.
The exhibition, which will be open daily from 11.30am - 4pm, is being organised by the National Monuments Record, the public archive of English Heritage and custodian of the John Gay Collection. The exhibition is free. Many of the photos are views of Kent, but without descriptions. The exhibition organisers need your help, so if you look through the gallery and recognise any of the scenes then let us know and we'll pass the information on.
