Beautiful Jersey

Every year Beautiful Jersey is sung at the main Liberation Day celebrations.

Every year Beautiful Jersey or Man Bieau P'tit J猫rri is sung at the main Liberation Day service in Liberation Square.

This year Sadie Renard performed the song singing the first verse and chorus in the islands own language Jerriais and then the second verse and final chorus in English.

Below you can read both the English and Jerriais versions of the lyrics and a copy of the performance as it went out on 成人快手 Radio Jersey.

Beautiful Jersey

There's a spot that I love that I ne'er can forget,
Tho' far I may roam 'twill be dear.
For its beauty will linger in memory yet,
Where'er o'er the world I may steer.
Dear Jersey, fair Isle, of the ocean the queen,
Thy charms are so many and rare;
For love finds a home 'mid each beauteous scene,
My heart ever longs to be there.

Beautiful Jersey, gem of the sea,
Ever my heart turns in longing to thee;
Bright are the mem'ries you waken for me,
Beautiful Jersey, gem of the sea.

On thy shores I have wandered in glad days of yore,
With one who is dear to my heart.
And the love-links will bind us as one evermore,
Although for a while we must part.
And oft in my dreams do I see the dear place
The dear little Isle of the sea,
And in fancy I gaze on a sweet loving face,
The face that is dearest to me.

Beautiful Jersey, gem of the sea,
Ever my heart turns in longing to thee;
Bright are the mem'ries you waken for me,
Beautiful Jersey, gem of the sea.

Man Bieau P'tit Jerri

Y'a un coin d'terre que j'aime, que j'n'oubli茅thai janmais -
Dans mes pens茅es tr茅jous preunmyi -
Car j茅 n'vai rein 脿 compather 脿 ses bieaut茅s
Dans touos mes viages 脿 l'锚trangi.
J猫rri, man paradis, pus belle taque souos l'sol茅 -
Qu茅 j'aime la paix d茅 chu J猫rri!
L'amour l茅 veurt, j'ai si envie d茅 m'en r'aller
脠rvaie man chi猫r p茅tit pays,

Man bieau p'tit J猫rri, la reine des 卯les -
Lieu d茅 ma naissance, tu m'p芒sses bein pr猫s du tchoeu;
脭, tchi doux souv'n卯n du bouon temps qu' j'ai ieu
Quand j'pense a J猫rri, la reine des 卯les!

J茅 connais touos tes charmes; et combein qu' j'en ai joui
Auve eun-茅 chi茅the anmie, aut' fais!
Quand m茅me qu茅 pouor a ch't heu j茅 n sais pon tout pr猫s d'lyi,
N'y' a rein qu' J猫rri dans mes pens茅es.
Et pis, comme tout bouon J猫rriais, dans l'fond d'man tchoeu
J'ai grand envie d茅 m'en r'aller
Dans l'卯le tchi m'a donn茅 tant d'amour et d'bonheu ,
脠rvaie ma chi茅the et man siez-m茅.

Man bieau p'tit J猫rri, la reine des 卯les -
Lieu d茅 ma naissance, tu m'p芒sses bein pr猫s du tchoeu;
脭, tchi doux souv'n卯n du bouon temps qu' j'ai ieu
Quand j'pense a J猫rri, la reine des 卯les!

Do you think this would work as the islands anthem instead of Ma Normandie or are you happy with Ma Normandie when celebrating Jersey?

there is only one anthem and that is beautiful jersey.i love the island as a visitor who comes over every year for liberation also again inoct.i cant understand how this could not be the anthem

Ted Doyle, Trinity 1945 to 1949
We used to sing "Beautiful Jersey Gem of the Sea" at Trinity Central School and I thought we sang it to the tune of "Beautiful Dreamer" am I right ? Ted.

I think Beautiful Jersey is difficult to sing. I much prefer Ma Normandie. I remember singing it when all the schoolchildren of the Island sang it to the Queen as she drove along the Esplanade - when? About 1954?

I am a bean living abroad and listening to beautiful jersey brought tears to my eyes. Its the perfect anthem for our beautiful island.

Peter Dewar-Finch
It's a very beautiful song and would be hard to better with any new anthem, for which a competition has been set up, even though the song is a bit twee and schmaltzy. Considering Jersey's history perhaps a more robust anthem would be more appropriate.

Jamie Brennan
Ditch the Franco garbage. No-one understands it anyway.

D Le Geyt
I would be much happier with a decent translation

English Rose
Beautiful Jersey, Land of hope and Glory, All things bright and beautiful

personnaly, I'm a french normand from cotentin ( i live on the coast just in front of your island), I really prefer "beautiful jersey" , " ma normandie" is terribly "kitsch" and seems to be made to make normand identity ridiculous. when you read " sous le beau soleil de notre france" you understand that it's not a regionalist anthem, it's only a caricature... I really, deeply, definitly prefer "Man Bieau P'tit J猫rri" it's the living proof of your deep and strong identity. and it's a song written in jersey norman speaking and not french speaking, wich is so close of my ancestors speaking. Keep on being proud of your difference! I love you Jersey!

Lucy
I think Beautiful Jersey would be more apropriate as it is about our little island home.

Brands
It makes more sense than "Ma Normandie" because Normandy is a department of France, whereas we are a UK national dependency. "Beautiful Jersey" extols our island, not a French department.

ben
love to hear Sadie every year singing this - i'm no music lover, but this sends a shiver up me when all the crowd join in - ma normandy leaves me cold in comparison
