Mobility Buggies

Man in buggie
Life on the road - but should buggies be regulated?

With our ageing population, it's possible that in the future there could be more mobility buggies than pedestrians on our pavements.

They're a lifeline for a growing number of people - but they have caused at least eight deaths in the last year.

They're also totally unregulated and unlicensed - indeed, there's nothing to stop someone who is registered blind from taking one on the road.

Stephen Bumfrey investigates and looks at possible solutions.

Hidden nature

Nature on brown field site
Nature unleashed - hidden nature on a brown field site

Thousands of new homes are being built across East Anglia.

To protect the countryside and our wildlife, the government has said that 60% of them should be built on 'brownfield land' - land that has previously been used.

But as Jess Whittaker finds out, our wasteland can be home to some of our most precious plants and animals.

Plans to build on Canvey Island in Essex and on one of Europe's biggest building sites in Peterborough, have had to be drastically reviewed due to the discovery of rare and endangered species.

The hard question remains, where to build our homes without destroying the homes of our wildlife

Car park man - from Iran to Norfolk

Shapoor Naghshineh works as a car park attendant in Norfolk.

Every morning he's up bright and early checking the machines, and patrolling the bays.

But he doesn't have to. He does it because he loves car parks.

Shapoor fled Iran in the 1970s, arriving in the UK with nothing. He's made his fortune by turning bits of waste ground into parking places.

He shares the secrets of his success.
