GHOST HUNTING - ONLINE QUESTION SESSION

Church in Canewdon, Essex
Canewdon's 14th Century village church

Ghost hunter Neil Fellowes answers YOUR questions about the Anchor pub and his paranormal investigations in general...

Q. Why do ghosts appear to want to either watch us or contact us?
From Lesley Lee

Neil replies, "Depends on the type of haunting really. Some "ghosts" may be recordings held within the fabric of the building (check out a thing called the Stonetape Theory) whilst others may be some form of spirit visitation with a message or information."

------

Q. Is enough logical thought put into detection equipment? If "ghosts" can go through walls, they are obviously not in this physical realm and thus cannot produce sound waves. Hence the use of recording equipment using microphones is somewhat ill-thought-out.
From Trevor Skeggs

Neil Fellowes
For Neil, ghost hunting is more than a hobby

Neil replies, "When using detection equipment, you have to cover all bases, taking into account the many reports of physical manifestations.

"There is a belief that ghosts are points of energy and are able to use sound waves etc to manifest via electrical apparatus. And also, it isn鈥檛 always the use of the equipment that is as important as the way in which it is approached with regard to sound recordings. Check out a thing called Instrumental Trans-Communication."

------

Q. Have you ever recorded a ghost your self?
From Matthew Bryan

Neil replies, "I have recorded some unusual images and sounds, but whether they are 'ghosts'in the traditional sense is another matter."

------

Q. Do you ever experience the smell of sulphur in your field of work where ghosts are concerned? If so, what does it mean?
From Clare Wright

Neil replies, "It is possible to experience any type of smell where ghosts and hauntings are concerned. I have experienced the smell of tobacco in one venue and in another, the smell of oranges. It is believed that 'paranormal' odours are a sign of ghost/spirit presence."

------

Q. If ghosts do exist, why do they wear clothes?
From Ronald Macleod

Neil replies, "Good question and I guess I would have to ask how would you feel if your great aunt Ethel appeared in front of you wearing nothing but French perfume and a big smile?"

------

Q. What chances are there of being a real ghost in the pub?
From Husan

Neil replies, "The chances are good because the building is old and it was the scene of a murder, this coupled with the fact there are a lot of electro-magnetic fields from domestic appliances and cooling systems etc would provide sufficient energy for a ghost to manifest."

------

Q. How can I be certain that what I have seen in the past was a real ghost or just my imagination?
From Sue Thorpe

Neil replies, "I believe that there are no certainties about this sort of thing and any experiences one may have are personal and very often have to be accepted as such. That鈥檚 one of the reasons why I became a paranormal investigator/researcher."

------

Q. I am 30-years-old and have already seen three ghosts. Do you think that I have had my feel for ghosts and I won't need to see anymore?
From Lisa Sargent

Neil replies, "Not at all and I don鈥檛 think that "need" comes into it. If you are sensitive to such things then it is possible you could see them again and again."

------

Q. I have had many experiences dealing with spirits both good and bad and have been told that I am a "sensitive". I am very interested in ghost hunting and would like to know if you know of any groups in the Colchester area please?
From Louise

Neil replies, "I personally am not aware of any Colchester based groups, but try searching on the Internet or perhaps start up your own group. There is enough information available through the Internet and libraries and we would be happy to help you get started, as we have with a couple of other groups."

------

Q. We experience a bright flash of light at random during the night, it's like a camera flash that is generated from inside our bedroom, can you offer any explanations?
From Alan Church

Neil replies, "Light flashes can be caused by a number of things, the most obvious being car headlights and street lights. If these catch a reflective surface within your bedroom then that may be your lights. Alternatively, when drifting between sleep and consciousness, the mind can play some funny tricks on you. Keep a note of times and locations within the bedroom of these flashes and see if you get a pattern."

------

Q. Has it been known for ghosts to speak rather than be seen?
My partner and I experienced such a odd event whilst staying at mother in laws cottage, it was a girls voice of around 10 years. Our own children were playing at the time and the third voice joined in. Our own children where only 5 and 6 - a distinct difference in voice tone etc.
From Sophie Taylor

Neil replies, "Yes it is possible for voices and sounds to be heard as part of a haunting or spirit visitation/manifestation."

------

Q. How can I get in touch with a ghost hunter? My neighbour and I have strange goings on in our two houses, and we would like to know the cause.
From Louise

Neil replies, "If you visit the Paranormal Dimensions website, you can contact me through that and we鈥檒l see what we can do, (see weblinks section below)."

------

Q. I have photographed an 'Orb' on our camcorder in the living room of our 40-year-old bungalow. Our son has also been barred from going from that living room to the extension (passing through what used to be the window on the old outside back wall). The area used to be an orchard. Can you tell me what this is?
From Ann Argent

Neil replies, "Difficult to say without seeing the footage. The first possibilities are always going to be dust, airborne particles, moisture and insects."

------

Q. I believe we have a ghost in our house which also haunts our neighbour's house. We were originally joined. The house is approx 250-years-old, and we have a lot of things happen around xmas. Can you help us as it is scaring my daughter?
From Beverley Revell

Neil replies, "If you contact us through the Paranormal Dimensions website, we鈥檒l be happy to try and help."

------

Q. I think I may have seen my nan's old dog, mini, in her house. Could you tell me if there is a possibility off seeing an animal as a ghost?
From Ashlie

Neil replies, "I firmly believe that there is every possibility of ghostly animals, there certainly isn鈥檛 any reason why there shouldn鈥檛 be."

------

Q. How do you expect people to believe that you can really translate ghosts? I鈥檓 a true believer but even I have my doubts about that?!
From Fred

Neil replies, "If you are talking about foreign ghosts, then there are many sound recordings in many different languages. There are also recordings of English type voices with accents and dialects as well."

------

Q. Hi Neil, I've been interested ghosts and the paranormal for a while now. I've been told about a pub in a village near Peterborough (Eye Green) it's called the Greyhound Inn. I work with two people in the daytime that work there in the evenings and they have witness many strange things, like doors slamming when there's no wind, a little boy running around the restaurant when there's no-one else there and the doors were locked?

Now I want to go and do some research into this, ad I was wondering the best way to go about it, I have already contacted a investigation team who have asked for some back ground work, ie photos, interviewing the landlord/landlady etc. Can you please advise?
From Matt Withers - Peterborough

Neil replies, "Please contact me through the Paranormal Dimensions website, I would be more than happy to help, (see weblinks section below)."
