I was a nurse at WRI from 1951 to 1953. The Matron was Miss Healey, the Senior Sister Tutor was Miss Turner The surgeon I remember with affection was Dr Marshall, Miss Norton worked with him. Dr Harry, Dr.Macarthy and Dr. Tulloch. PTS nurses included a German girl, von Ikstead, Gwen Price, Mary Bancroft, Lorna Sankey, Bradley. In 1952 my brother David was posted to El Firdan RAF base in the Suez Canal zone and asked me to find some pen pals for his friends. A photo of 12 nurses was sent and in the case of Bancroft and myself, these blossomed into marriage, We have just celebrated our 54th anniversary and now at 79 yrs old I look back with happy memories of my time at WRI and the friends I had there.

my late father (Mr James) was head gardener, and I often went with him on Sundays to tend the greenhouse & gardens in the (1950's)

Ive heard alot of storys about worcester royal infermary about it being haunted.Apparently there was this doctor that died there and only came back when there was a really sick baby , but i dont remember the name of who he was . My school nurse told me the story she said she worked there and one of her friends did too , she just popped out to do something and when she came back her friend was holding a baby and said she saw a man that just disapeared , anyway they did some tests on this baby and it turned out to be really ill and was rushed up to birmingham childrens hospital. if anybody knows anyhing about it being haunted please could you write back its really interesting , thankyou x

My first post as staff nurse was in the 'new' accident and emergency dept in 1970.I remeber working in the 'old' dept in Castle Street as a student nurse. I trained from Jan 1967 until qualifying in July 1970.Perhaps it is good to keep the old buildings in memory of the British Medical Association(Charles Hastings). We used to have our breaks in the boardroom on night duty. Ah so many memories.

I worked at the Infirmary for 13 years in medical records.I have driven past many a time, and it is heartbreaking to see the state of it. Will be glad to see it restored to its former glory.

I worked in Castle Street outpatients for 7 years and how sad it is to see that in such a short space of time the outpatients department is in ruins. I hope that the new owners at least preserve the heritage of the chapel area for posterity. So much of old Worcesters character has been lost to developers over the years.

I worked at Castle Street from when I left school in 1987 and still work at the new hospital. These pictures brought back a lot of very happy memories of working there...let's hope the new university brings the old place back to life.
