What do you make of the new Christmas lights? Did you enjoy the switching-on ceremony? Do you prefer it taking place on a Sunday, closer to Christmas?

Fantastic! Hadn't expected it to look so good! The first taste of what the new designers had in mind was when the Victoria Footbridge was re-opened, with lights installed in the bridge supports. It looked like something from London or Manchester. OK, the first set were stolen but were soon replaced by a more secure design. And now we've got a spectacular High Town with amazing lighting built into the pavements and a clean sense of space and purpose! At last, Hereford feels like a small modern city instead of feeling like a dowdy backwater market town that happens to have a cathedral. The pictures on this page don't do it justice. An unexpectedly fantastic job! Congratulations to all concerned - council planners, contracted designers and workmen.
