Debbie Bonham

The sister of Led Zeppelin's legendary drummer talks about the band, and her own music.

Debbie Bonham is in a unique position to look at the Led Zeppelin reunion gig; she grew up at Old Hyde Farm, near Kidderminster, which was bought by her older brother John, who drummed with the legendary band.

She's also played and recorded with lead singer Robert plant, who she's known all her life.

Her nephew, Jason Bonham, John's son, will be playing drums for Led Zeppelin at the special one-off gig.

Debbie told Howard Bentham at Breakfast on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Hereford and Worcester that she'll be very proud, and very emotional, when she sees him play at the O2 arena in London:

"I don't think wild horses would stop me going to the gig - I've got my little nephew to support.Ìý I'm absolutely thrilled – I can't wait to see him.ÌýÌý

"He's just a formidable drummer, he just one of the best.Ìý I'll be in tears as soon as he walks out on stage."

Debbie is a singer in her own right, and is able to call on both family and famous names to appear on her records.

"I don't think wild horses would stop me going to the gig - I've got my little nephew to support.Ìý I'm absolutely thrilled – I can't wait to see him."

"Jason has just done a track on a new album I've got coming out next year - he's played on that for me, with Paul Rogers.Ìý

"I've just got a deal with Warner Brothers, and we went over to Malta and played with Robert (Plant).

"He was doing a show there, and we opened up (the gig) – it was fantastic."

Tribute

The one-off charity gig by the surviving members of Led Zeppelin is a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the head of Atlantic Records, who first signed the band:

"Ahmet was just a visionary in the music industry, and they have so much respect for him – that's the reason.Ìý

"When Ahmet died, this memorial was put together, and everything from the gig is going to the Ahmet Ertegun Education Foundation for Children.

"I think they just wanted to do this in honour of Ahmet."

She is in no doubt about the importance of the band in the history of rock, and she'd also like to see them work together again.

"I think led Zeppelin set the foundations of many bands of today. Their music is just legendary, so I think they'll be remembered forever.

"I'm one person who'd love to see them again, and I'm sure I'm one of many. Watch this space I guess."

If you have a story about gigs you've seen in Herefordshire or Worcester, or about meeting a rock music legend, then we'd love to hear you story, and include it in our Music Map.
