When you look at the influences of a band, you can start to pinpoint and build up an idea of what sort of style or sound the band will have.听 Looking at what music had influenced The Counterfeits, it was very difficult to tie them down to a particular genre or set of influences. Folk and Blues artists such as Leadbelly, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams, mixed with the rock bands like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, punk acts like The Germs and The Stooges, and more recent acts like Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age, all helped to shape the band's music. Since forming in January 2006, The Counterfeits have worked on developing each idea, each composition slowly, building it, arranging and rearranging it, assessing, experimenting, delaying, and changing with each gig a platform to test their unique sound. In the band's relatively short existence, they played gigs around the country, including a full UK tour, building up a large and devoted fan base along the way. They have supported a host of national touring acts (Delays, Vincent Vincent and The Villains, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Blackbud and Jim Noir to name a few) and received 成人快手 and student radio airplay in numerous regions. They have also been featured in national magazines, including an interview in The Big Issue. Counterfeits
Reviews"As The Counterfeits beam their flawless grunge-garage pop over to the Pulp audience, it quickly becomes apparent how much potential these guys have to being on their way to an NME front cover. Melodic vocals sensuously draped over jagged guitar spikes fills their new song 'Dark of the Night' - like a blanket of nightfall on a late autumn day. The left handed drummer is a man possessed, his big arm sweeps and potent energy lead the band, with no gaps, through the Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone and the t-shirt referenced Germs tinged set. Songs like 'Hideaway' - about terror "Be afraid my little one" and the national feeling of hiding from 'terror' - stand out as being the more political meets playful tunes. Loads more jumping and falling to the knees means the rock 'n' roll attitude is coming along nicely!" - Moles.co.uk "The Counterfeits are a feisty power trio that sound like The Jam elbowing for room with Nirvana. Heaviness, coupled with melody and bursts of energy, bring The Who to mind. They are a young band with excellent dynamics that give a nod to musical history while looking to the future." - Portsmouth Evening News "This incredibly raw, live sounding EP from The Counterfeits delves into the archives of classic blues and grunge. The opening track is called 'Aint it a Shame' which Fats Domino it's not but a classic blues riff it is! 'The Waiting' a compelling energy rush of White Stripeness and Cobain vocal melodies. 'No More' could have been written by The Who. 'Jack O' Diamonds' is almost Aneurysm by Nirvana and 'See that my Grave is kept clean' is 'one last favour from you' (lyrics). The Counterfeits sound like an English Jack White singing bluesy Nirvana songs which, to my surprise, sounds pleasantly refreshing after all the Libertines tribute bands coming through! How can a reference to The White Stripes already sound refreshing?! Anyway The Counterfeits certainly maintain an energy, which made the aforementioned sound refreshing in the first place although they don't seem to consider lyrics so carefully. Stand out track 'Jack O' Diamonds' hears the best vocal performance, boxy production - garage sensibilities, this is where they rock!" - Decode Magazine "The Counterfeits never cease to impress and enthrall with their own conception of blues and folk influenced rock. These five tracks capture the essence of the band鈥檚 strength and proficiency while never betraying the sincere, unspoiled and natural sound that makes them so charming. Led by sweet sophisticated vocals the distinctive hop-skip of their music is impossible to resist. The EP opens with a slightly light-hearted approach, blows you away with the next three tracks, and ends on a more mellow note - a shift that compliments the previous tracks by illustrating the band鈥檚 ability to expand their sound just when you thought you had it figured out. Keeping their fans in a constant state of anticipation, this band never fails to surprise and somehow always exceeds your expectations." - Spill Magazine Sadly in late 2007, the band decided to "call it a day" and have now moved on to various other musical projects within the county. You can listen to all the latest music from across the two counties on the Friday Session, every week from 7pm, on 成人快手 Hereford & Worcester.last updated: 16/01/2009 at 23:05 Have Your SayDid you ever see The Counterfeits live?
