I live just around the corner where Elgar used to live in Hampton Park, Hereford. As I drive past on Hampton Park Road I get a great feeling, I can almost feel his presense, hear music etc. As a composer myself I look back to people like him. He was the Lennon/ MacCartney of his day. The grounds are well kept and a little plaque indicates this was his home..

Sir Edward enjoyed a flutter on the horses. There were no lawful street bookies in his day so he had to visit Worcester Post Office and send a telegram to Ladbrookes in London.He used to ask for my father Frank who was the counter supervisor at the time. When the reply came in the late afternoon giving the result if it was a win my father would cycle home via Rainbow Hill but if it was a loser the telegram boy was sent.Elgar new the result when he saw who came up the drive at Marlbank.
