After making a relatively low-key debut for the West Indies in 1969, Holder came into his own in the early seventies. During this period his commitment and accuracy saw him play a key part in the West Indies 1973 series win against England, their first in over six years. Joining Worcestershire in 1968, Holder stayed at the club for 12 years and was made Captain in 1970. During this period he helped Worcestershire win the 1974 county championship and took a total of 586 wickets for the club. Though briefly eclipsed in the mid seventies by the new generation of West Indian fast bowlers, Holder returned to International cricket, going on to take a test best of 6 for 28 against Australia in Trinidad in 1978. After retiring from first class cricket in 1986, Holder became a first class umpire in 1992. last updated: 15/04/2008 at 09:18 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Sport > Worcestershire CCC > WCCC greats > Vanburn Holder |
