Lily-flowered tulips are single May-flowering varieties, with a uniquely elegant shape. The long, pointed petals are usually waisted halfway up, and then reflex at the tips to produce overall a tall, slim graceful bloom that is a favourite for cutting, for formal bedding and as a container bulb. The stems are strong and wiry, giving good resistance to wind, and the plants have a robust constitution, so the bulbs may be planted permanently, when they often flower a few weeks earlier. 'West Point' is a very large conspicuous classic variety. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
