This plant has striking foliage, rather like giant clover leaves, with triangular, three-cornered flowers held just above it in late spring and early summer. The foliage looks good long after the flowers are over. This is a superb plant for a woodland garden, and it associates well with plants such as epimediums which like the same conditions. However, do not allow this plant to be swamped by vigorous or spreading plants as it will soon disappear if this happens. Once established it dislikes disturbance, clumps are unlikely to outgrow their space. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its award of Garden Merit (AGM).
