This striking perennial holds the Royal Horticultural Society's prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM), which is for plants of outstanding excellence. It blooms over a long period, stretching from late spring to early autumn, although summer sees the main flush of flowers. Found growing wild in Turkey and Syria, as you might expect it enjoys well-drained soil in a sunny position. However unlike many phlomis, it will put up with some shade.
