Formerly known as A. palmatum 'Senkaki'. This Japanese maple is attractive in all seasons: in spring the leaves are a lively pinkish green, turning a rich green in summer and then canary yellow with orange highlights in autumn. It also makes a fine winter feature; bark on all its younger shoots and branches is a conspicuous coral red. It requires sun to modest shade, in moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates a range of soils, including sand and heavy clay, and it is drought-tolerant. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit.
