'Golden Wings' is a modern American variety, which has rapidly gained deserved popularity as a reliable and versatile rose for specimen or massed planting. Plants are naturally bushy, with dark rusty stems that are almost thornless, and attractive fresh foliage. The large informal blooms, which are virtually weatherproof, appear continuously throughout the summer if regularly deadheaded. They are single, although a few extra petals may occur, clear primrose yellow, with a light pleasant fragrance. Plants thrive in poorer soils and light shade, and make a spectacular flowering hedge. As a shrub rose, it is best pruned in late summer, after flowering has finished. Prune most stems lightly. To encourage young, vigorous growth, cut back a few of the oldest stems each year. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
