Ornamental grasses, such as miscanthus, are becoming very popular, and it's easy to see why. Their elegant, arching foliage looks good from spring to winter. In late summer it's joined by feathery flowers, which remain attractive until early spring the following year when the plant should be cut to ground level to make room for the new growth. 'Flamingo' has narrow, mid-green leaves and claret-red flowers.
