There are two kinds of shrubby honeysuckle with varied uses around the garden. Foliage kinds are popular for hedging and topiary, while flowering species and varieties are important border shrubs. L. fragrantissima is one of the best of the latter type, with sweetly fragrant flowers, dainty and creamy white, in late winter and early spring. The foliage is variously evergreen or deciduous according to aspect and climate. Plants look better without pruning, and so should be allowed plenty of room to develop. They tolerate shade, but they flower best in full sun.
