Red apples are popular and decorative in the garden, and there are number of brightly coloured varieties with good eating qualities. 'Discovery' has rosy red skin and crisp, juicy flesh with a sharp taste. It is a good variety for storing through winter. Like all apples, trees are grafted on rootstocks which affect their size and vigour, and may be trained in a number of different shapes. Pruning depends on the tree form and vigour of the rootstock, and should be checked in a handbook.
