Blackcurrants are a real summer treat ideal for using in pies, jams, jellies and puddings. 'Ben Connan' has exceptionally large berries that have a superb rich flavour. It is one of Pippa Greenwood's favourite varieties as it shows good disease resistance. The bushes are also very frost tolerant, making them suitable for colder areas. Cropping mid-July, it can produce up to 8lb of fruit per established plant. All these fine qualities have led to the Royal Horticultural Society giving it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
