Camellias are handsome evergreen shrubs. Camellia x williamsii hybrids are the toughest and easiest to grow, and the best for planting in most gardens. 'Donation' is one of the most popular of all camellias, and totally reliable. It is a vigorous shrub with gorgeous semi-double blooms, rich pink and fragrant. Early morning sunlight on the buds in frosty weather can damage them, and where spring frosts very severe, or where soils are unsuitable, plants may be grown in large containers of lime-free compost water with rain water. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
