The strongly scented peppermint stands out with its pale purple flowers and dark green leaves with a reddish tinge. If you need abundant crops of leaves for the kitchen, then let it spread, but if you need to restrain it in, plant it in a bucket with drainage holes and bury that in the ground. Look out for one particular species with very dark leaves verging on brown.
