A terrific alternative to the lamp-post sunflowers which try and hit the chimney, it has a multitude of soft yellow flowers set against the veined, dark green leaves from the end of summer to mid-autumn. It gets off to a slow start in late August and early September, but quickly revs up adding a mellow touch. Provide stakes to support the stems. Occasionally divide to keep it young and vigorous. It has been given the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society.
