'Crown Prince' is a grey skinned variety that is a little more unusual than the traditional orange varieties. Although it may not look as attractive it is one of the best varieties for culinary use. The bright orange flesh has a fine flavour which is excellent when roasted. If you are growing pumpkins for culinary use, leave several smaller fruits per plant. This will give you several smaller pumpkins rather than one large one. Pumpkins require a moisture-retentive but free-draining soil with plenty of organic matter and nutrients. Water regularly throughout the growing season to ensure even growth.
