'Giant Single' is a tall-growing variety of the traditional easy-to-grow sunflower. The blooms have dark centres and attractive bright golden petals. These are held on tall stems which are capable of growing several metres. This is an ideal variety for children to grow if planted next to a wall or tall cane so that they can chart its progress as it grows. Encourage plants to grow vigorously by preparing the planting site well, with manure of fertiliser before planting. This variety features in the Gardeners' World Sunflower Trial 2004. After flowering leave the seed heads on the plant to feed wild birds.
