Pyar Ke Side Effects (2006)
12aContains moderate sex references and imitable technique

Pyar Ke Side Effects explores the inevitable complications that occur when you make the "mistake" of falling in love. Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat traverse the murky waters of a long-term relationship, as it heads towards marriage. Part of the new wave of contemporary Indian cinema, the film is devoid of the usual Bollywood melodrama and instead employs high wit and humour to great effect. A must see for anyone contemplating taking the plunge.

After three years together, Trisha (Mallika Sherawat) is keen to take her relationship with DJ Sid (Rahul Bose) to the next level. When Trisha proposes to him however, the commitment phobic Sid is left bewildered. Under pressure to commit or lose the woman he truly loves, Sid succumbs and quickly becomes subject to the first side effect of love, namely, impending marriage.

"MALLIKA IS A REVELATION"

Proffering a refreshingly realistic take on the pitfalls of contemporary relationships, Pyar Ke Side Effects captures the essence of modern life and love. Debutant director Saket Chaudhary complements an imaginatively executed storyline with slick editing and innovative camerawork. The strong cast is led by the incomparable Rahul Bose, who brings a humour and poignancy to Sid's alternating despair and confusion, that is the cornerstone for the whole film. Mallika Sherawat, meanwhile, is a revelation, transformed from sex-siren to an every woman, looking for love and marriage. Hilariously funny and decidedly on the mark.

In Hindi with English subtitles.
