With little hype or fanfare it's a wonder this sweet film will get any audience at all. Adapted and directed by Lagaan scribe Sanjay Dayma, Ramji Londonwaley follows the trials and tribulations of Ramji, an Indian national in London who loses his paperwork but is so loved by all he meets that they do everything to save him from being deported. It's overlong and unnecessarily complicated but R Madhavan's central performance still manages to charm your socks off.

Forced to leave his native Bihar to earn money for his sister's dowry, naive chef Ramji (Madhavan) rocks up in London only to find his prospective employer dead. But no sooner does he bump into a restaurant owner (Harsh Chhaya) and his wife, than Ramji's culinary skills have secured him a job - and, once the immigration officials come knocking, a marriage of convenience to the couple's friend Sameera (Samita Bangargi).

"THE FILM'S SAVING GRACE IS ITS CAST"

Gracelessly edited and over-stuffed with sub-plots - the director even throws in a recipe competition for good measure - the film's saving grace is its cast. Madhavan's charismatic and expressive performance provides most of the film's nicely understated humour. While British actress Shalu Verma and Bangargi also impress - even alongside Bollywood living legend Amitabh Bachchan, playing himself.
