Yakeen (Belief) (2005)
12aContains moderate violence and mild sex

Having reworked most of Hollywood's recent blockbusters producer/screenwriter Vikram Bhatt turns to 1991 thriller Shattered for inspiration for his latest film. Directed by Giresh Dhamija, Yakeen sees Arjun Rampal reprise Tom Berenger's role as a businessman who hires a private eye to discover more about his past after a car crash that has left him with amnesia and severe facial injuries. With more twists than a portion of curly fries, this mystery will leave you guessing until the end.

Despite plastic surgery restoring his handsome face, Nikhil Oberoi (Rampal) is having trouble piecing together his memory after plunging off an icy cliff. Even with his loving wife Simer (Priyanka Chopra) nursing him back to health, Nikhil's sixth sense leaves him suspicious. So would you be if your partner escaped the same accident relatively unscathed. Soon terrifying flashes of memory, his friend Tania's (Kim Sharma) hints about his wife's infidelity and even his own reflection in the mirror are making him paranoid. But who should he, and more importantly the audience, believe?

"NOT AN ORIGINAL BONE IN ITS ENTIRE BODY"

Sticking closely to its American predecessor, Yakeen races along, delivering twist after turn until it reaches its devastating climax. Rampal and Chopra also deliver convincing performances as the traumatised husband and wife, proving they are more than just pretty faces. But Yakeen still doesn't entirely impress: as the umpteenth Hollywood-Bollywood remake to be released this year, there clearly isn't an original bone in its entire body.
