To give young Lalli (Sarabjeet Cheema) a better chance in life, his doting father (Ashraf Rahi) and uncle (Tariq Javed) pack him off to get a city education in this primitive comedy drama directed by Sukhwant Dhadda. With high hopes Lalli will return to their village a richer and better man, the brothers scrape a living - and pay for Lalli's tuition fees - as common street entertainers. But years down the line Lalli has other plans, which don't include returning to marry his childhood sweetheart Kamal (Veena Malik).

Lalli may come from a low caste background but at college he's Mr Popular, cleverly hiding his real background from his friends and true love Ruby (Sheeba Bhakhri). So when it's time to get hitched, Lalli is faced with the dilemma of how to tell his family that he neither wants to return to rural life nor marry his cousin Kamal (a family tradition he doesn't believe in). Ashamed of his father's lowly status, Lalli decides its best to sever all ties. But what he doesn't realise is the drastic effect it will have on all concerned, especially his village bride-to-be.

"SIDETRACKED BY ONE TOO MANY SONGS"

While Pind Di Kudi commendably tackles the sensitive topics of the Indian caste system and marrying within family, its biggest drawback is the tendency to get sidetracked by one too many songs. A small budget Punjabi language film without English subtitles, it will only attract Punjabi-speaking audiences but as the first joint film production between the Indian and Pakistani film industry in over 40 years, it deserves praise.
