Spooky folk on the farm

Cate le Bon’s recent single Sisters, a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ 6 Music Rebel Playlist winner, typifies this rising star's off-beat lyricism and driving back-beat, which is reminiscent of mid-period Velvet Underground.

It’s an apt analogy as le Bon’s spooky folk-tinged vocals have at times been compared to the deadpanning of the icon German chartreuse Nico. It’s a comparison that doesn’t do this original singer-songwriter who performs in both English and Welsh an injustice.

It was the support slot on Gruff Rhys’s 2007 solo UK tour that first put Le Bon in the public eye. She has since become a festival regular having played Glastonbury previously, Latitude and the Green Man Festival. Originally from Penboyr in Wales le Bon is now based in Los Angeles.
