No longer Pretending

Amazingly, during the 30-plus years that Chrissie Hynde has been touring and recording as leader of The Pretenders, she has never before released a solo record.

One of the most recognisable - and uncompromising - voices in rock, Chrissie grew up in Ohio, but moved to London in 1973, determined to get a job writing for iconic music paper NME. Before long she was playing in bands alongside the likes of The Clash's Mick Jones and Visage's Steve Strange.

The formation of The Pretenders in 1978 started a 30 year run of hits including Don’t Get Me Wrong, Stop Your Sobbing and chart-topper Brass In Pocket.

Having once said that she would never be a solo artist, Chrissie began to rethink after a low key US tour in 2010 under the name The Fairground Boys.

She aimed to make her solo debut with "a power pop album you could dance to – Abba meets John Lennon". Expect a Hyde Park set packed with both Pretenders classics and her brilliant new solo songs.
