In the second year of their Festival residency, the 成人快手 National Orchestra of Wales performs two major works featuring 鈥渃odes鈥� in music, Shostakovich鈥檚 Cello Concerto no. 1, with its theme taken from a musical cryptogram of the composer鈥檚 initials, and Elgar鈥檚 Enigma Variations, featuring Last Night of the Proms favourite 鈥淣imrod鈥�, arguably his best-known work. The programme celebrates a second quintessentially British work, Elgar鈥檚 sumptuous song cycle Sea Pictures.
