About This Event

In tonight鈥檚 all-Rachmaninov Prom prize-winning pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk makes his Proms debut in the composer鈥檚 demanding Third Piano Concerto (continuing our cycle of the composer鈥檚 complete piano concertos), while the 成人快手 Scottish Symphony Orchestra steps into the spotlight for the mercurial Second Symphony, with its hauntingly beautiful Adagio and impassioned finale.

The Latvian Radio Choir complements each work with Russian Orthodox chant, illuminating these blazing orchestral works with the hypnotic sound-world that seeped into Rachmaninov鈥檚 works (including, possibly, the opening 鈥楻ussian Hymn鈥 theme of the Third Concerto). These chants also formed the basis of Rachmaninov鈥檚 glorious All-Night Vigil (Vespers), which follows in this evening鈥檚 Late Night Prom.

Tickets for this concert are now very limited. However there are still treats in store for Rachmaninov lovers! See below for more details.

As well, weekend Promming passes are still available which guarantee entry into this Prom up to 30 minutes before the performance starts. See below for more details.

Broadcast on 成人快手 Four, 13 August
