Concert information
Stravinsky’s ballet about the lovestruck puppet Petrushka astonished audiences in Paris in 1911, and over a century later, its orchestral colours are still as bright as new paint. Under Martyn Brabbins, it’s a chance for the whole orchestra to shine, while our principal horn Alberto Menéndez Escribano will have his moment in the spotlight for Mozart’s popular and playful Fourth Concerto as well as the seldom performed Concert Rondo. But first, be there as we uncover a major piece of forgotten British musical history: nothing less than the first professional performance of a full scale symphony by Michael Tippett since he decided to withdraw it in the mid-to-late 1940s.
