The dreamy pastoralism of Vaughan Williams鈥檚 The Lark Ascending contrasts with the jaunty vigour of the composer鈥檚 overture The Wasps in this all-English Prom. Job continues this season鈥檚 thread of great 20th-century ballet scores, while William Alwyn鈥檚 First Symphony adds to the evening鈥檚 nostalgia with the endless melody of its slow movement.
