Shostakovich called his Fifth Symphony 鈥渁 Soviet artist鈥檚 response to just criticism鈥� 鈥� but then, he didn鈥檛 have much of a choice. And every note screams out a different, much darker story.
From its tempestuous opening to its final, blazing chords, this is music that demands to be heard: angry, heartfelt, and utterly compelling.
