Switzerland鈥檚 longest-established orchestra, the Tonhalle-Orchester Z眉rich, makes a welcome return to the Proms with Tchaikovsky鈥檚 passionate Violin Concerto (featuring soloist August Hadelich) and Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 nostalgic 鈥楴ew World鈥� Symphony, drawing on the African American and Native American melodies he heard during his three years as director of New York鈥檚 National Conservatory for Music. The evening opens with Beethoven鈥檚 The Consecration of the House, a heartfelt homage to the composer鈥檚 musical forefathers, Handel and Bach.
