An introduction to the life and music of Henryk G贸recki, the man and the music, by Polish music expert Professor Adrian Thomas.
When his Symphony of Sorrowful Songs burned itself into the world鈥檚 imagination in the early 1990s, few had heard of Henryk G贸recki. But for the previous four decades he had established himself as one of Poland鈥檚 most individual composers, journeying from avant-garde experiment to the simple, monumental style of his maturity. Direct, passionate and profoundly engaged with the folk culture of southern Poland, Gorecki鈥檚 own character shines through his music. In this Total Immersion we鈥檙e joined by expert performers and commentators to rediscover the man and his output, from his haunting quartets to the radiant choral works and his powerful second symphony 鈥楥opernican鈥.
