About This Event
Few composers captured life鈥檚 struggles as vividly as Tchaikovsky. 鈥楾his is Fate,鈥 wrote the composer in 1877 as he grappled with the opening notes of his Symphony No. 4. 鈥業t hangs above your head like the sword of Damocles.鈥 By the symphony鈥檚 final pages, Tchaikovsky had wrested hope from despair. John Storga虋rds conducts his 成人快手 Philharmonic in this full-blooded symphony, after the delicate, white luminosity of Hans Abrahamsen鈥檚 Horn Concerto and the brusque drama of Sibelius鈥檚 symphonic fantasia Pohjola鈥檚 Daughter, based on a tale from Finnish folk epic the Kalevala, in which the ancient bard Va虉ina虉mo虉inen attempts to woo the beautiful Daughter of the North. The Prom opens with Schumann鈥檚 much-overlooked dramatic overture for his opera on the medieval legend of St Genevieve of Brabant, Genoveva.
