Stephen Hough makes his second festival appearance this summer playing Mendelssohn鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 1, sight-read by Liszt in the 脡rard piano showroom in Paris in 1831 to Mendelssohn鈥檚 amazement.

Under its Principal Conductor Robin Ticciati, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performs another work of the same year, Berlioz鈥檚 King Lear overture, and Beethoven鈥檚 鈥楨roica鈥� Symphony, described by Berlioz as 鈥榓 funeral oration for a great hero鈥�. George Benjamin pays tribute to Bach in orchestrating excerpts from The Art of Fugue.
